We’ve completed a number of renovations in Moonee Ponds, which is a stone’s throw from our Essendon showroom in Melbourne’s northern suburbs.

This wonderful kitchen renovation was also the cover kitchen in an edition of Kitchens & Bathrooms Quarterly magainze.

This renovation was black and white to begin with, as the previous kitchen had white cabinets and benchtops with stainless steel handles and matching glass splashbacks.

Contrast that with the “revived” kitchen, where black panels, timber-look doors, marble benchtops and a pink tile splashback have transformed the look and feel of the living space.

“The previous kitchen had been a typical late-‘90s-style space,” says Rosemount’s designer. “The homeowners wanted a revived kitchen that would have an unexpected impact and surprise visitors, so this black-and-timber masterpiece was created.”

Here are just some of the reasons this renovated kitchen works so well.

• Standout splashback: the idea was prompted early in the design process by a foot stool in a similar pink that the owners and designer thought would work perfectly as a pink tiled herringbone splashback.
• Cohesion of design: the matt black panels, timber-look cabinetry, marble benchtops and the aforementioned splashback blend smoothly and provide a seamless flow into the open-plan living area. This was helped by the addition of a TV unit and desk built from the same materials.
• Symmetry: injected into the design by the centred Smeg oven and balanced marble benchtops.
• Storage: a must in this and all new kitchens, and achieved through a pantry integrated into the fridge run and drawers below a WingLine track that opens all the way for easy accessibility.
